Ditch the Dirt

12th Jun 2018

As part of our topic ‘Liquid Gold’ the children are completing the activity ‘Ditch the Dirt’.  This week we discussed the importance of water in our daily life and looked at images of different ‘watering holes’ in Turkuna, Kenya.  For their first challenge the children had to select a water collecting piece of equipment they were given 5 minutes to fill a given container from a ‘watering hole’.  Two groups were able to complete the challenge the children however were worried about the amount of dirt that was in the water.  This led to further discussion about how difficult it must be for the people of Turkuna to keep hydrated.

The children during their Persuasive Writing designed posters to encourage each other to keep hydrated especially during this hot weather. Our next challenge was to create a way to filter the water that has been collected.
