Chocolate STEM Investigation

20th Oct 2017

Today the children took part in a chocolate STEM investigation where they investigated the affect the temperature of water has on the rate of dissolving hot chocolate powder. We used 3 temperatures of water; ice cold, room temperature and hot water. The children predicted which one they thought would be the best and put their predictions to the test. They talked about how each cup must have the same amount of powder and water to make it a fair test.

After observations we could see that the hot water had the best effect as all the hot chocolate dissolved. The ice cold water was the worst it was lumpy and looked disgusting the children said! They were able to record their results and discuss reasons why the temperature would have had that affect. Some children decided to try their cup of hot chocolate and by the number of chocolate faces they enjoyed it!! Some on the other hand, with the cooler water did not and their faces definitely tell that story! We look forward to taking part in more STEM activities!๐Ÿ˜€
