Exploring Length in P3 & P4

Last week we measured length and width using non-standard units. We predicted how many unifix-cubes would equal the length of Mrs Hagan. We arranged our cubes in lengths of 10 so that they would be easier to count. 
Next we drew around the outline of 4 children in our class and measured their length or width using unifix-cubes; straws; colouring pencils or highlighters. It was a really fun practical lesson. 
We then extended our learning further to investigate what objects in our classroom were longer than or shorter than a metre.
